The UK Gift Calendar: When to Order Personalised Gifts for Every Major Occasion

by GiftsVolt Workshop 20 Jul 2026

Every major gift-giving occasion in the UK, when to shop for it, when it peaks, and when to order to be safe on delivery. A practical calendar for anyone who wants to stop panic-shopping.

Why This Calendar Exists

Most gift-buying disasters are timing disasters, not budget ones. Mother's Day sneaks up on people every year. Christmas orders go in the second week of December and land on the 27th. Wedding season books up personalised gift suppliers months in advance.

This is a straightforward UK calendar of every major gift occasion, when it happens, when demand peaks, and when we recommend ordering personalised gifts to be safe on delivery.

January

Occasions this month: Winter birthdays, Chinese New Year (late Jan or Feb), New Year housewarmings (people who moved in December).

Quiet month for most gift categories — but a smart time to plan ahead for Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. Order by mid-January to have Valentine's gifts arriving with plenty of time.

February — Valentine's Day

Peak occasion: Valentine's Day (14 February).

Order deadlines for Valentine's Day:

  • Tracked 24: order by 10 February
  • Tracked 48: order by 8 February

Popular gifts: couples' mugs, matching photo blocks, engraved bottle openers, slate keepsakes with an anniversary date. Browse the Valentine's Day collection.

March — UK Mother's Day

Peak occasion: UK Mother's Day (Mothering Sunday) — falls on different dates each year (three weeks before Easter). It's earlier than most people expect, so mark the actual date on the calendar each January.

Order deadlines:

  • Tracked 24: order 5–6 days before Mothering Sunday
  • Tracked 48: order 7–8 days before

Popular gifts: personalised mugs for Mum and Nan, photo blocks with the family, wooden signs with family names, canvas placemats. Browse gifts for Mum and the Mother's Day collection.

Also in March: Easter often falls in late March, and the first wave of wedding-season enquiries starts (weddings from April onward).

April — Easter & Wedding Season Begins

Occasions: Easter, baby shower season picks up, wedding season starts.

Popular gifts: children's Easter gifts (personalised mugs, coasters), wedding gifts for spring weddings, baby shower keepsakes.

April is when we start seeing wedding gift orders for the spring and summer season — bridesmaid gifts, groomsmen gifts, personalised gifts for the couple.

May — Wedding Season Full Swing

Occasions: Weddings (very high demand), late spring birthdays, coronation and bank holiday events.

Popular gifts: personalised wedding gifts, engraved bottle openers for groomsmen, photo blocks for the couple, personalised coasters as wedding favours.

Order wedding gifts at least 2 weeks before the wedding date to allow for personalisation and safe delivery.

June — Father's Day & Graduations

Peak occasion: UK Father's Day (third Sunday of June).

Order deadlines:

  • Tracked 24: order 5–6 days before Father's Day
  • Tracked 48: order 7–8 days before

Popular gifts: personalised mugs for Dad, engraved bottle openers, wooden signs, slate keepsakes with a family photo. Browse gifts for Dad and the Father's Day collection.

Also in June: graduation season peaks. Personalised graduation gifts — photo blocks, engraved plaques, and student mugs — are in high demand.

July & August — Peak Wedding & Summer Birthdays

Occasions: Wedding season peak, summer birthdays, summer holidays.

Popular gifts: wedding gifts, summer birthday gifts, holiday keepsakes. Wedding orders should go in 2–3 weeks before the wedding date during peak season, as personalisation workshops (including ours) are busier than usual.

Also in July / August: a quiet moment before the pre-Christmas rush. This is the best time to plan gifts for the second half of the year.

September — Back-to-School & Christmas Planning

Occasions: Back-to-school (personalised teacher thank-you gifts from June carry into September), autumn birthdays, early Christmas shoppers.

Popular gifts: personalised teacher gifts, autumn wedding gifts (October weddings), early Christmas shopping.

Insider tip: the smartest Christmas shoppers order in September. No stress, no rush, and you're not competing with November's demand.

October — Halloween & Autumn Weddings

Occasions: Halloween, Diwali (varies each year, often in October or November), autumn weddings, early Christmas shopping continues.

Popular gifts: Halloween gifts for kids, Diwali gifts (a high-demand market in the UK), autumn wedding gifts.

November — Christmas Shopping Peaks

Occasion: Christmas shopping.

November is the biggest ordering month of the year for personalised gifts in the UK. Everyone realises Christmas is coming and orders start pouring in from mid-month. Black Friday (last Friday of November) adds a huge spike.

Insider tip: order Christmas gifts in the first two weeks of November to avoid the rush. You'll get a faster turnaround, more options, and no risk of a stock issue or delivery delay.

December — Christmas & New Year

Peak occasion: Christmas Day.

Order deadlines for guaranteed Christmas Day arrival:

  • Tracked 24: order by 19 December
  • Tracked 48: order by 17 December
  • Bulk orders (5+ items): order by 10 December to be safe

Leave a few extra working days for peace of mind — December is Royal Mail's busiest month, and small delivery delays happen.

Also in December: Boxing Day family gifting, New Year's Eve, and end-of-year corporate gifts.

Occasions That Happen All Year

Some gift occasions don't follow a calendar — they happen constantly:

  • Birthdays — the biggest ongoing gift category. There is no “birthday season” because someone in every family has one every month. Order at least 1 week ahead for standard personalisation.
  • Anniversaries — peaked slightly in summer (matching wedding season), but happen every month.
  • Baby showers & new baby gifts — births happen year-round.
  • Housewarmings — peak in spring and autumn as most people move house then, but happen throughout the year.
  • Leaving-work gifts — year-round, with slight peaks in January and July/August.
  • Bereavement & memorial keepsakes — year-round; personalised photo blocks and slate keepsakes are among the most treasured.

Cultural & Faith Occasions

Dates shift each year depending on the lunar or solar calendar — always check the actual date for the current year.

  • Eid al-Fitr — end of Ramadan; date shifts by ~11 days earlier each year on the Gregorian calendar
  • Eid al-Adha — approximately 2 months after Eid al-Fitr
  • Diwali — typically October or November
  • Chinese New Year — typically late January or February
  • Vaisakhi — 13 or 14 April
  • Hanukkah — typically December
  • Passover — typically April

For any of these, order at least 1–2 weeks ahead to be safe.

Standard GiftsVolt Delivery Times

Every gift we make is personalised to order in our UK workshop. Standard workflow:

  • Processing: 1–3 working days
  • Shipping: Royal Mail Tracked 24 (next working day after dispatch) or Tracked 48 (2–3 working days after dispatch)
  • Total: typically 2–5 working days from order to delivery

For full details, see our Delivery & Returns page.

The Golden Rule

For any occasion — birthday, anniversary, wedding, Christmas, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Eid, Diwali, or any other — the simplest rule is:

Order at least 1 week ahead, ideally 2.

That gives us time to personalise properly, allows for any adjustments, and leaves buffer for Royal Mail. For a wedding or an especially important gift, order 3–4 weeks ahead.
